CCF Biennial Review

On 14th March 2009, the Cadet Unit had its Bienenial Review - what many of us will remember fondly as "Annual Inspection". I was delighted to be asked to take picures of the event on behalf of the unit and the Stockdale Trust.

A slideshow of these images (at reduced resolution) can be found on the right of this page and I will also upload the images to the main CRA Website at http://www.c-r-a.org.uk in due course.

If you would like copies of any of the pictures, DO NOT use the "order prints" option in Picassa as these are not the full size images. Contact me and I wil arrange to upload the full sized images to Photobox which is more suited to online print ordering.

CRA Dinner 2009

The "book" is now open for the 2009 CRA Dinner to be held at Southover on the 29th May. Invitation letters will be sent out before the end of March but keen members wishing to be ahead of the game can download a copy of the letter here:

A message from your Chairman - OF Dinner 20th March

Dear Association Member

I am sending you this email as a reminder that the Old Finchleians Dinner is to be held at the Clubhouse, Southover on Friday 20th March 2009. You should have been sent a letter a couple of months ago but may have forgotton or not got around to responding. It is not too late to decide to attend.

As this year's OF President I would welcome your support at this function. If you are able to attend please email me either through the CRA website, by reponding to this blog post or if you still have the dinner letter, contact John Bowra by phone.

CRA Dinner 2009

Members who like to organise their diaries early will be pleased to note that the date for this year's CRA Dinner is announced as:

Friday 29th May 2009

Members will of course receive their usual invitation in the post in due course.

This year, our Chairman, Mick Crick is also the Old Finchleians President so we can be assured that all our speakers will be of the highest calibre.

Please make every effort to attend so that this year, we can crack the 50 diners target.

One change for this year is that as a result of comments received, wine will no longer be included in the price of the dinner. This will allow us to reduce the price and your committee hopes that members will prefer this approach.

The main CRA website has been moved to a new hosting company. This change should have been entirely un-noticed by visitors to the site but if you experience any problems viewing and of the website of downloading any files, please contact the webmaster.

One of the benfits of the change will be the ability to add a "Guestbook" to the site and we hope to have this functionality enabled shortly.

CRA AGM 13th November 2008

This year's AGM was held at Southover on 13th November. Attendance was up on previous years and the evening was full of reminiscence and debate as well as the formal business of the meeting.

The minutes will be published on the main CRA website shortly - in the meantime, the Chairmans report to the AGM for 2007-8 has been published. If you follow the link to:

When time permits we intend to add the Chairman's reports from previous AGM's to ensure that the website provides a complete history of our Association.

Cornwall Boys

Shortly after Remembrance Sunday, in November 2008, I was visiting friends in Cornwall when, on information provided by our Chairman, Mike Crick, I was able to locate the graves of two former pupils of Christ’s College who had died during the Second World War and whose names are on the memorial in the school hall.

Fl Lt Ronald Frederick Gore RAF who died on 16 March 1944 lies in Grave No 24 in a Commonwealth War Grave plot in Illogan Cemetery in the churchyard of St Illogan near Redruth.

Lt Derek Albert Davis RN who died on 23 June 1945 rests in Grave No 18 in a similar CWG plot within the churchyard of St Merryn near Padstow. The nearby Cornish Arms contains information about the wartime Royal Naval Air Station named HMS Vulture which was active during the war just outside the village of St Merryn.
